Javier Badillo is a Venezuelan-Canadian film director, producer,
writer
and musician. He dabbles in action adventures, political
and historical thrillers, awkward romantic comedies, magical
realism and outsider dramas. His films and characters portray worldly
lives, bittersweet nostalgia, sharp wit, a longing for a better future
and a place to call home. His short films have played in
international film festivals, American TV and the Web.

NEWS

Javier's short film Afternoon at Gudrun, an
awkwardly tender comedy about getting over ourselves,
was an Official Selection at the Cannes International
Film Festival - Short Film Corner 2013. Javier attended
in person and secured a distribution deal with iflixtv.com

Javier co-produced the feature length drama AFTERPARTY
(dir. Michelle Ouellet - Whistler Film Festival 2013) and
the broad comedy THE COVER-UP (dir. Erick Boychuk),
currently in post-production.

Javier recently directed the TV pilot RINK RATS,
a comedy about life and work at an ice rink, created by
producers/writers/actors Allan Yates and Jack de Saram.
Rink Rats was represented at CMPA's PrimeTime in Ottawa.

He is currently developing his feature length directorial debut,
PUNK NOIR, a crime drama written by Mickey Bukowski,
and co-produced by Jon Povill (Star Trek, Total Recall).

FILM COMPANIES AND AFFILIATIONS

In 2005 Javier founded Spitshine Flicks Inc., an independent
film production company that focuses on developing and producing
original feature films for the international marketplace.

Since 2012, Javier serves as Programming Director for the
Vancouver Short Film Festival (www.vsff.com).

Javier was for two years the Regional Director for the non-profit
filmmakers organization Raindance (www.raindance.org)
and moderated the townhall meetings of the Institute for
International Film Financing
(IIFF) from 2011 to 2013.

MUSIC

Javier is a professional recording and touring musician.
He is currently playing shows and recording with his Latin
punk rock trio Caracas (Touring Mexican Riviera Aug 22-30)
and rock-reggae group Warless (Touring ArtsWells and
Haida Gwaii Festivals Aug 2-19).

In Malaysia, Javier recorded and toured with the cultish punk
rock band LyMe (1998-2001) and co-founded the indie record
label Bongsai Records. In Canada, he played and recorded with
the popular gypsy-latin band Kola Collective (2006-2008).
